Staying Happy Through Hiking

There’s no doubt that hiking through nature is good for our bodies; while it’s not too intense it’s nonetheless vigorous and can provide an excellent workout. Hiking, however, can also do a lot for our minds, especially when it comes to keeping us happy. Here are just a few of the many ways hiking can help keep us happy.

It keeps us connected to nature. The concrete jungles that many of us live in, filled with the noise and hustle of modern life, can sometimes leave us feeling stressed or disconnected. Hiking can take us out of that world and back into nature, strengthening the relationship to the natural world that helps keep so many of us happy.

It helps keep our minds sharp. While all exercise helps boost brain power thanks to extra oxygenation, hiking adds an element of navigation thanks to the required trail navigation. A sharp mind can lead to clearer thoughts, less stress, and ultimately, more happiness.

It can help build relationships. Solo hikes are definitely a good time, and often a much needed way to unwind and process your thoughts. Hiking with a friend or loved one is another option, however, one that leads to quality time with the people who are most important to you, strengthening bonds in the process. We all crave connection, and we can definitely reach it through a shared hike, leading to happy experiences and memories.
