Discovering Your Individual Happiness

At some point in our lives, we’ve been told that we should strive for happiness and everything else will fall into place. What exactly is happiness, though? According to the online Merriam-Webster dictionary, happiness is described as “a state of well-being and contentment” or “a pleasurable or satisfying experience”. There’s the keyword: experience. Everyone in a particular situation will see things differently because they all have different interpretations of what their reality is. What makes me happy, doesn’t need to make you happy.

Societal expectations play a crucial role in getting in the way of people’s individual happiness because there are certain things that are expected of us. For example, we have to go to school, find a good job, get married, buy a house, have kids, and everything in between. Does that mean we all have to follow these steps in order to be happy? Not necessarily. The key is to try things out for yourself, and see where it takes you. Take that class you’ve always wanted to take. Run that marathon you never thought you could complete. Read to your heart’s content. Just make sure it makes you happy.

Fear is a powerful thing, and when we fear to go against the grain, we tend to stay put or follow the herd. Once we discover what makes us happy, though, the world will follow suit and be happy for us. Trust yourself enough to make the necessary decisions to further yourself in life. It’ll be worth it. After all, your happiness is worth it!

For feel-good books to boost your mood and to further motivate you to continue to pursue your happiness, feel free to browse through our online library www.hearfind.com for books that will give you that boost of joy. Books like Danielle Steel’s memoir Pure Joy, about the happiness that came with the pets she’s had throughout her life, namely a dog so small that captured her heart with his big personality. Perhaps James Baraz’s book, Awakening Joy, giving his readers a step-by-step guide to help them discover their own happiness. Whatever the direction is, find your individual path to contentment and don’t look back!
